iPad · in the kitchen
The kitchen screen Apple is talking about, you already own: it is your iPad.
Prop the iPad against the mixing bowl. Cuisinier En Chef shows one step at a time in large type, starts the step's timer on its own and keeps the screen on. You move on by voice, from your AirPods, or with a knuckle on the edge of the screen.

What HomeView does in the kitchen
Apple announced HomeView on 13 October 2026: a 7-inch screen for the kitchen counter. Open a recipe in Safari, tap Start Cooking, and the page becomes a series of steps whose times become timers, which you run by voice.
It is a good idea, with limits. HomeView has no App Store, so no recipe app installs on it. Its cooking mode starts from a web page that publishes its recipe in a structured format. And it goes on sale on 13 November in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and a few other countries.
What your iPad does, with Cuisinier En Chef
One button to start
After an import, “Save and cook” saves the recipe and opens cook mode straight away, for the right number of people.
One step at a time
In large type, readable from the other end of the counter, in the author's exact words. Never cut off, whatever your text size.
Timers start on their own
Every time written in a step becomes a timer: the first starts the moment you reach the step, the others with a tap.
Several timers at once
The oven keeps going while you make the sauce. Each timer runs to the end whatever step is on screen, stays on the Lock Screen, and rings when it is done.
Without touching the screen
By voice, with no wake word and nothing sent anywhere; a press on an AirPod or a Bluetooth pedal; from the Apple Watch; or a knuckle on the edge of the screen.
The screen stays on
For the whole recipe, and only for the recipe. Nothing to change in Settings.
Amounts beside the step
When a step names an ingredient, its amount appears beside it, already worked out for the number of people.
Your library everywhere
A recipe imported on the iPhone is already on the iPad, through your own iCloud.
And what a web page cannot give you
Safari's cooking mode starts from a well-marked-up page. Cuisinier En Chef starts from almost anywhere, and most of the time the device does the work itself, for free.
- YouTube videos and their chapters
- Pages with no markup
- Scanned books and PDFs
- Amounts for your table
- Your own recipes
- Steps read aloud
Setting the iPad up in the kitchen
Landscape, on a stand, upright rather than flat: the step switches to 16:9, photograph on the left and text on the right.
The first time you open cook mode, the app asks how you want to move on and tells you what each way costs. The microphone is only requested if you choose voice.
An inexpensive Bluetooth pedal makes an excellent "next" button when your hands are full.
Questions
Is HomeView sold everywhere?
No. It goes on sale on 13 November 2026 in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, India, New Zealand and Singapore, and not in the European Union, where Siri AI is not available.
Does Start Cooking work on iPad?
Not so far: Apple presents it as a Safari feature of HomeView. On iPad, Cuisinier En Chef turns any recipe, video recipes included, into steps you follow one at a time, with their timers.
Does Cuisinier En Chef run on HomeView?
No. HomeView has no App Store, and shows only certain audio and video apps from the iPhone. Cuisinier En Chef is an independent app for iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
Do I need to buy anything?
No. The app is free, with no account, and five recipes are already in it. A recipe your device reads costs nothing, and never will.
And on iPhone?
Everything described here works on an iPhone propped against the bowl too. The iPad just gives you a bigger screen.
One less recipe to print out tonight
